Flametec converted a Still RX60-25 to ATEX Zone 2 for methane gas environment to BS EN 1755:2000,A2-2013. The truck will be operating indoors and outdoors in a beverage bottling company in the UK. A Passive System was chosen as the conversion method. A Passive system provides a slightly higher level of safety than an active system, and is the only protection method allowed under Zone 1. Additionally, a truck with a passive system is able to drive out of a hazardous area, while a passive system shuts the truck down in the event of gas detection. All ignition hazards on the truck were protected as per the requirements of ATEX and EN1755. All sparking components were fitted inside a Flameproof Ex ‘d’ enclosure located behind the operator’s seat. All sensors, dashboard, fingertip controls etc. were also protected appropriately in accordance with the ATEX directive 2014/34/EU.
For this project the customer supplied the truck with ATEX certified batteries. Our flexible approach allows us to easily meet customers demands and requirements while maintaining ATEX compliance.
